The Kingdom of Lane Xang 1354-1707
In 1354 warlord Fa Ngum came over from the area today known as Vietnam and declared himself the King of Lane Xang. Lane Xang means 'million elephants under the white parasol' so there will definitely be a array of this symbolism that will connect me to this period.
This period is best described as a loose feudal federation rather then a Kingdom. As Burmese, Vietnamese and Siamese all tried to gain some form of ownership over this vast unstable and undistinguished area. The people of this time are the direct ancestors of modern Laos therefore need to be taken into consideration when trying to understand the movement and change of a people and their culture.
